| Durras Discovery Walk |
| Taking
around 45 minutes to complete the walk takes you down a bush staircase
for an easy walk through the forest. The
walk displays majestic spotted gums including several eucalypt
species and dense rainforest. The trail encourages visitors to enjoy the tranquil surrounds of the forest while highlighting the important values of the forest in the past, present and future. There is evidence and displays that show how axeman felled trees using a technique known as boarding to get higher up the tree to the best timber. Listen to the birds and spot the animals. You can you see where they live and what effect they have on the forest. Feel the bark of the trees and compare its look and texture to those nearby3 Remnants of other forest users, past and present can be found if you look, feel and listen. If you can handle a longer walk, try the Durras Lake Walking Trail that branches off the Discovery Trail. The return walk takes about three hours to complete. |
